Washington, D.C. – November 7, 2013 – It’s simple: Bikes are good for business – and their employees. Bicycles are helping to drive economic development across the country, and they’re creating a more energized, alert and productive workforce for the companies that have embraced bicycling.

Today, the League of American Bicyclists recognized Cogentes with a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) award for leading America toward a more sustainable future.

With the announcement of 91 new BFBs today in 29 states and Washington, D.C., Cogentes joins a visionary group of more than 600 local businesses, government agencies and Fortune 500 companies across the United States that are transforming the American workplace.

“Businesses like Cogentes are leading the way to a healthier and more sustainable future,” said Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists. “While helping boost the economy in their communities, Bicycle Friendly Businesses are also investing in a happier and more productive workforce.”

Cogentes encourages bicycling as an easy option for transportation and provides amenities such as designated bike rooms and showers, and incentives such as their “Team Cogentes” jerseys to participating employees.

“Bicycling as an alternative form of transportation offers something positive for businesses that want to relocate here,” says Cogentes’ President Tom Glover.  “We’re thrilled about receiving this designation and encourage other businesses to look at the BFB program.  It’s not only about green practices; it’s also about health and fitness awareness.”

Now, Cogentes will have access to a variety of free tools and technical assistance from the League to make biking even better at their location.  When our employees bike, great things happen: traffic and pollution are reduced; health and fitness are improved; all in all, everyone benefits from Bicycle Friendly Businesses.
